Big 5 Sporting Goods is one of the few places where not only can you try hiking boots on, they also have large sizes, I wear a size 14.
I went to Big 5 for hiking boots recently, I was looking specifically for a pair of waterproof boots to go play around in the snow. I also wanted them to be fairly inexpensive.
Why Big 5?
One of the things that I like about shopping at Big 5, it’s one of the few places that you can still go and try shoes on. And they do have a decent selection of boots and shoes in large sizes, I wear a size 14.
Also Big 5 usually has sales going on, and being as I just wanted these boots to go play in the snow, I wanted them to be fairly inexpensive.
The Hiking Boots
So I came across these Hi-tec waterproof boots. They were on sale for $45, originaly $70, that was a pretty good deal.
I already have these Adidas Terrex hiking shoes that are waterproof. I bought these just for my everyday shoe during the wintertime, and they’ve been working out really well.
But we’re planning on going to play around in the snow, and I wanted something that had a little more coverage on the foot.
These Hi-Tec waterproof hiking boots are specifically called the Yosemite mid. The boots are rather bulky and feel heavy on the foot.
The material on the top of the hiking boots feels like suede. I did pour some water on them to see if the water would seep through on the tongue or where the material is different and my foot did stay dry, it’s given me hope for when we go and play in the snow.
They are a little difficult to lace up at the beginning because there they are pretty stiff.
In Conclusion
So if you’re looking for a pair of hiking boots, I would recommend going to a Big 5, if you have a location near you.
Like I said, they do offer boots and shoes in large sizes, and they do most of the time have a decent selection and offer sales a lot of the time as well.
I’m sure you’ve received a flyer in the mail from time to time from Big 5.
